Cheesy Baked Cauliflower Tots is an easy and delicious tots recipes loaded with cheese and the goodness of low carb Cauliflower. They are very easy to assemble and the dish is ready within 30 minutes. I have baked this tots instead of frying but one can always fry them.

What is Tater Tots?

I have heard a lot about Tater Tots and how kids and elders are mad for that. And why not? When a dish calls for potatoes and that too fried, everyone is in love with it. Tater tots or just tots are a food made using grated and deep fried potato and often served as a side dish. More about how Tater tots was invented can be found here.


Cauliflower replaced by Potato

Yes I too love potatoes and it is difficult to resist. But you cannot always keep on eating just because you like. And that too fried. But we need to satisfy our cravings, so comes the idea of replacing it in different food. Cauliflower is termed as the new potato. Yes and it is a good low carb replacement in so many recipes now.

Baked Cauliflower Tots

Cauliflower is an extremely healthy vegetable and a good source of different nutrients. It is a low carb vegetable, high in fiber and a good source of Antioxidants. Thanks to the latest low carb diets this vegetable is back in action and a favourite with those who are on strict low carb diets.


Cauliflower Recipes

Yes I do make a lot of recipes with cauliflower in it. The best low carb recipe on my blog with cauliflower is Cauliflower and Green Onion Fritters and this Sticky Honey Sriracha Cauliflower Wings (Baked & Gluten Free) . I love how simple this dish is yet so filling. I also love to add cauliflower more than potato in my Pav Bhaji (No Onion No Garlic) and love to cook them in this stuffed version, Grilled Peppers stuffed with Cauliflower and Cheese.

Why I am talking about cauliflower is today we are sharing dishes made using one vegetable and that is a Winter Vegetable in India. Cheesy Baked Cauliflower Tots

Today’s recipe of Cheesy Baked Cauliflower Tots is very simple. All you do is rice the cauliflower, add cheese and required herbs. Shape and bake them and you are sorted. They are best served hot with some ketchup on the side. Best for kids parties or as a finger food for your toddler.

This tots have a strong cheesy flavour and specially from Parmesan. Now we are not a parmesan cheese fan and probably that is the reason I felt it strong. Next time I will reduce the parmesan cheese quantity by half.

Baked Cauliflower Tots

So here comes the recipe for Baked Cauliflower Tots:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Medium Size Cauliflower – around 500 gms
  • 1 Cup – 100 gms – Cheddar Cheese
  • 3/4 Cup – 90 gms Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 Cup – more or less Bread Crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Mixed Dry herbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilly flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 180 Deg C.
  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Wash and clean the cauliflower as you generally do. I simply immerse the cauliflower florets in hot water for 10 minutes to get rid of impurities.
  • In a food processor, pulse the cauliflower until riced.
  • Squeeze out the water from the cauliflower by taking a fistful amount in your size. Repeat with the rest.
  • Alternatively you can use a muslin cloth, add the cauliflower in it. Squeeze out all the excess water.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients and mix everything.
  • You should be able to shape them into small tater-tots or small ovals.
  • Line them on baking tray.
  • Bake for 20 minutes turning in between.
  • Serve with tomato ketchup or sauce of your choice.

Notes

  • 1 teaspoon = 5 ml, 1 Cup=235 ml
  • Oven timings and temperature vary. Keep an eye out after 15 minutes.
  • One can even steam the cauliflower and then pulse it. I did not do this step.
  • Use Gluten free Bread crumbs to make it gluten free
