Ingredients

Pizza Base

  • 1 cup Barley Flour
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • ½ cup Lukewarm water
  • ¼-½ cup Lukewarm Water
  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt
  • Extra Flour for Dusting

Assembling the Pizza

  • Mozzarella Cheese as needed for toppings
  • Vegetables of choice -I have used onion, sweet pepper, Jalapeno
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Butter or Olive oil as required for spreading on the base

Instructions

Dough for Pizza

  • In a bowl add in 1/2 cup of lukewarm water and sugar and dissolve.
  • The water should be just warm. You should be able to dip your finger in it. If too hot it will kill the yeast.
  • Now add in the yeast, mix and let it bloom for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, if your yeast mixture has not bloomed you would need to discard and start again.
  • Now in a large bowl or a stand mixer add in the flour, salt
    Mixing of the flours
  • Give everything a quick mix.
  • Add in the bloomed yeast mixture and mix.
Mixing of the yeast mixture in the dough
  • Slowly add the water and make a semi-soft but still firm dough.
  • Knead the dough well with the heel of your hand incorporating 1 tbsp oil as you go.
  • After 5-10 minutes the dough should have a smooth consistency.
    The kneaded dough
  • Cover it lightly with a cloth and let it sit in rising for 1.5 hours.

Assembling the Pizza

  • Preheat the oven to 200 Deg C
  • After 1.5 hours you would see the dough has risen somewhat. It may or may not be double.
  • Deflate all the air in the dough and knead it for a few minutes.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions, if you want to make small size pizzas.
Pizza dough ready to be rolled
  • Using some dry flour, roll out the dough into circular or rectangular shape as desired.
  • I rolled out into a large 12 inch pizza base.
  • Gently flip it over a Baking tray or a pizza pan.
  • Spread some olive oil or butter.
  • Then add some pizza sauce leaving 1-2 cm of the edges.
  • Spread the cheese and filling of your choice.
Pizza base being rolled in top image and the bottom is seen with toppings
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 30-35 mins until the top and the edges are nice golden brown. (Do check your pizza after 20 mins as ovens are different.)

Notes

  • 1 tsp = 5 ml, 1 Cup=235 ml
  • One can use milk too to make the dough.
  • All oven’s are different so do check your pizza after 20 mins and thereafter look after 5-5 mins if not baked.
