Farali Arbi Chips | Taro Root Chips (Fried, Air Fryer, and Oven Baked)

Fried or Air Fryer Baked Farali Arbi Chips or Taro Root Chips are a quick, easy, and good alternative to your regular potato chips or crisp.

Cook Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 2 Cups

Ingredients

  • 4 Arbi / Taro root medium size
  • Cold Water as required
  • 2 cup Oil (if Frying)
  • 1 teaspoon Oil (If baking or air-frying)

To flavour with salt while frying

  • 1 cup Water
  • ½ teaspoon Salt

Instructions

Prep work

  • Peel and cut arbi it into thin slices.
    4 Arbi / Taro root
  • Soak them in cold water for at least 30 mins.

  • Drain the water, and pat them dry in a clean kitchen towel.

Frying

  • Make a solution of water and salt and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottom wok. Do not overfill, just fill half or one-fourth.
    2 cup Oil
  • Once the oil is hot, use the cut arbi slices and dip in hot oil. Keep the stove to medium.
  • Alternatively one can directly cut the arbi slices in hot oil. Remember to pat dry the whole arbi to remove any excess water.
  • Only add a few arbi slices in one go, as they might stick together and not get cooked.
  • Once they are half done, add 2 spoons of salt water.
    ½ teaspoon Salt, 1 cup Water
  • The oil will have some bubbles and make some noise. It is completely normal due to water and oil reaction. It will settle in a minute.
  • Once the oil has settled, turn the arbi chips and cook them until they are golden brown and crisp.
  • Remove on an absorbent paper or a colander once done.

Air Fryer

  • Preheat the air fryer to 180 Deg C.
  • Line the arbi chips in the baking tray and brush or spread them with oil.
    1 teaspoon Oil
  • Bake at 180 degrees C for 8-10 minutes.
  • Do check after 6 minutes, as it might burn quickly and air fryers are different.
  • Turn in between.
  • If they are not crisp, repeat in intervals of 1 minute.
  • Remove it from the air-fryer let it cool completely.
  • Once done, sprinkle with salt and seasoning of choice.

Oven baking

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  • Line the arbi chips in the baking tray and brush or spread them with oil.
    1 teaspoon Oil
  • Bake at 180 degrees C for 25-30 minutes.
  • Turn in between after 15 minutes.
  • Keep a close eye after 20 minutes as towards the end they get cooked quickly and there are high chance they might get burnt.
  • They are done when they are firm to the touch and start turning brown all over.
  • Remove it from the oven and let it cool on the baking tray.
  • Once done, sprinkle with salt and seasoning of choice.
  • Store them in an airtight container once they are completely cold.

Notes

  • 1 Cup = 235 ml, 1 tbsp= 15 ml, 1 tsp = 5 ml
  • The baking time will vary depending on the chip size and the tray size on how closely or far they are arranged in the baking tray.
  • Keep a close eye after the recommended times as towards the end they get cooked quickly and there are high chances they might get burnt.
  • Baking time varies depending on the oven and air fryer, so do keep an eye after they are half done.
  • If after a few hours, you feel the chips are soft at all, just let it bake again at a minimum temperature in the air fryer or oven for some time.
