Sugarless Cacao Oats Breakfast Smoothie

Another smoothie on my blog and this time it was the turn to incorporate my favourite chocolate in it. Yes chocolate for breakfast :-). Only a die hard fan of chocolate can understand this. So today’s recipe is all about Sugarless Cacao Banana, Oats and Dates Breakfast Smoothie.

So how it is sugarless when it has chocolate?

I have not used the actual store bought chocolate here. But instead I have used Raw Cacao powder. Raw cacao refers to the cacao beans and tree that provide the pods used to make chocolate. It has undergone minimal processing, but has the natural fats found in cacao beans. The Cocoa which is generally sold as chocolate drink has added sugar, fat and milk products.

The base of the recipe is using oats and banana. It is best to use a perfectly ripe or over ripe banana for this recipe as in that case you will not need to add dates. I have added dates to my smoothie as it was less on the sweeter side. Remember Raw cacao powder is more on the darker side and hence require a bit of sweetness. Though one can skip dates completely.

So here goes the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 Ripe Banana
  • 1/4 Cup Porridge Oats
  • 1 tablespoon Cacao Powder
  • 3-4 pitted Dates (Optional)
  • 4-5 Almonds (Optional)
  • 1/2 Cup Thick Yogurt

Preparation

  • Blend everything into a smooth paste in a blender.

Notes

  • 1 Cup = 235 ml, 1 tablespoon = 15ml, 1 teaspoon = 5ml
  • Dates was added later to add a bit of sweetness and hence not in the pic. It is completely optional.
  • One can skip the almonds to make a nut free version.

Ingredients
