Oats Chivda | Spicy Oats Trail Mix

Sharing is caring!

If you like munching healthy snacks then this crunchy and spicy Oats Chivda or Spicy Oats Trail Mix is just for you. It is an Indian inspired Chivda or a trail mix that is made using roasted oats, some healthy nuts and a few spices to give a tongue tickling spicy and sweet taste.

What is Chivda?

Chivda is a Namkeen which generally is a mix of different ingredients. The most common Chivda traditionally made is using flattened rice aka Poha. There are different recipes of the same and can be made using roasting or frying as one prefers. Now we have different varieties of chivda with the main ingredient being poha, or cornflakes or anything.

What is Trail Mix?

Trail Mix is a type of snack mix with a combination of granola, dried fruit, nuts and seeds. Generally light on the tummy but an ideal snack to get some instant energy boost.

Recipe with Oats

I cannot eat oats in sweet form or loaded in milk. Hence I always try to have it in savoury form like in this, 10 minutes Savory Oats Upma or in this Vegan Baked Oats Bites or my favourite weekend breakfast or lunch, this Oats Vegetable Pancake. Sweeter versions are less but I love to try it in Sugarless Oats and Cocoa Smoothie and for my breakfast in Apple Granola Overnight Oats.

So today I thought of making a fusion of both. I love chivda and wanted to make it with either cornflakes or oats. I generally do not have cornflakes at home, but Oats was lying in my pantry and was screaming for some good use. So today I thought of making a munching snack for our evening hunger pangs.

Today’s recipe

This Oats Chivda is a real quick and easy recipe and can be done in as good as 20-30 minutes. One can play around with the ingredients and skip or add ingredients as required. For example if you do not have curry leaves or coconut just skip it. One can add any nuts or seeds or choice to give it a healthier boost.

How long can this be stored

This chivda can be made in bulk and if stored properly can last for at least 2-3 weeks. It can also be enjoyed as a good travel snack. I am sharing this with our Foodiemonday group where the 244 theme for this week is Snack Mania. I suggested this theme and I wanted everyone to make a snack that would last at least for 15 days. So here goes my share for the current theme.

Wow making chivra with oats is a great idea Renu. Loved this healthy version of regular chivra. I have lots of oats in my pantry. We don't like porridge so use in my cakes, cookies, appe, idli or pancakes. Now I have a wonderful option to use oats. Awesome share.
