Sharing is caring!

Third day of the BM theme, Flavours of Greece, I am sharing another healthy recipe, called as Yiaourti me meli – Greek Yogurt with Honey and Walnuts. This Yiaourti me meli is generally served as a dessert after the main meals but this really can be enjoyed any time of the day. For instance Breakfast, or your mid morning or evening Snack.

Greek Yogurt With Honey and Walnuts (Yiaourti me Meli)

Work has been crazy at my front in office and home and I am not getting enough time to make some recipes at length. In a way it is good as I am creating some healthy dishes which are no cook and can be made in a jiffy. As said in my earlier post on Greek Salad, that I have a long list of recipes from this cuisine to prepare but I have opted for some easy, quick and healthy bites.

Greek Yogurt With Honey and Walnuts (Yiaourti me Meli)

Coming to today’s recipe of Greek Yogurt With Honey and Walnuts, I make a similar version but I call it as my 5 min Healthy Greek Yogurt Breakfast Bowls , where my main focus is on fruits and seeds. This recipe of Yiaourti me Meli is literally a 2 min recipe where you are just coating the walnut with honey and adding it to Greek yogurt. What can be more good then to start your day with a bowl of protein rich Greek yogurt , honey and walnuts. And do I say about Walnuts, they provide healthy fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

There is no fixed proportions to this recipe. I have adapted this recipe from here, but changed my measurements. . Feel free to adjust to your liking, that is you can add more or less of walnuts, honey as per your taste and a pinch of cinnamon. If you do not like Cinnamon simply do not add. I always use Full fat yogurt, infact I make it at home. If you wish you can use low fat versions too.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 1/4 Cup Walnuts
  • a pinch of Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Vanilla Essence (optional)

Preparation

  • Toast the walnuts in a pan on slow or in a oven for 6-7 minutes until you see them browning a bit or fragnant. (Toasting is optional, but it adds a lovely crunch and flavour)
  • Let it cool.
  • In the mean time in a bowl add in the Greek Yogurt and Vanilla Essence and mix.
  • Coat the walnuts with honey or alternatively you can just top them on yogurt
  • Pour this in a serving bowl.
  • Add the honey coated walnuts.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon and enjoy.

Lovely simple recipe....but how do you make Greek yogurt at home ...

When you make yoghurt, let it drain in a muslin cloth in the refrigerator. The whey will separate and you will have thick Greek Style yoghurt. In the refrigerator as it will take a few hours and the yoghurt will get sour outside. Do remember that it will not be similar to shop bought, as they do have setting agents in it.

Greek meals often end simply with yogurt and honey or fruit preserve - this light and creamy dessert is perfect for the summer season!

Yogurt are always my favorite and this creamy dessert is already tempting. That walnuts & honey on top makes it all the more drool worthy.
