Vegan Irish Breakfast

Sharing is caring!

Ireland is famous for its full hearty Irish Breakfast typically consisting of meat, eggs, vegetables, and bread along with some tea or coffee. Vegan Irish Breakfast is my take on the traditional full Irish Breakfast including only vegan items.

Vegan Irish Breakfast served on a grey plate along with some coffee in a grey cup. The breakfast consist of (anticlockwise from front) baked beans, sauteed mushroom, Indian style tofu bhurji, sauteed tomato, hash browns, butter and in the center avocado.

What is served in a Traditional Irish Breakfast

A typical Irish Breakfast would consist of meat which would be bacon or rashers, sausages, and black and white puddings.

Vegetarian Options

This is served along with half-fried or poached eggs or scrambled eggs, beans, sauteed mushrooms, tomato, hash browns, or potato bread. Though I have never seen potato bread served.

Bread and Beverages

This then has some homemade Irish Soda or brown bread, but I would say that is served in restaurants that serve traditional food. Typical joints just serve it with regular bread. To wash this down, tea, coffee, or orange juice is served.

Vegetarian Irish Breakfast

Now if you are looking for vegetarian options I would say it is slowly coming up. Restaurants now serve Vegetarian options. Along with the vegetarian options mentioned above, at times cheese is typically served. The fried halloumi is very common.

Then some veggies like green beans, spinach, etc are sauteed and served along with eggs. Avocado or avocado guacamole, marinated and baked, or plain tofu is also served.

Vegan sausages or fake meat are also served at times. But I really do not like that option.

Vegan Irish Breakfast

I’ve wanted to make this Vegan Irish Breakfast for a long time. But the thought of doing this all early morning is daunting. With a family hungry early in the morning it is difficult. I do not cook separately for my blog, I mean if I cook, we eat it and do not let it go to waste. So finally I am here with my Vegan version of Irish Breakfast

On my plate, I have some sauteed tomatoes. Nothing much here, just toss the tomatoes in some olive or vegetable oil. Season it with salt and pepper.

Similarly, I saute the mushrooms. Now mushrooms can be enjoyed whole or cut into half or quarters as desired. I have cut it into quarters. I also added some soy sauce and vinegar to this. One can skip it completely and do it similarly to tomatoes.

Next, there are some avocados and baked beans (store-bought), and hash browns. Then I have some scrambled tofu or Tofu Bhurji. I made this scrambled tofu in the Indian style similar to egg bhurji. Yes to appetize my taste buds, a bit of a kick, and this happens when we stay in another country. We try to make fusions.

Bread and Beverages

Lastly, I simply served this with some vegan brown bread and some coffee. I wished to serve this with Whole Wheat Irish Soda Bread, but I could not make it. Next time, with a few more vegetarian/vegan options for a typical Irish Breakfast.

I did spread my bread with butter, but I would definitely recommend this Vegan Mayonnaise as a spread on my toast. It would be so yum and perfect for my Vegan Irish Breakfast.
