A Gingerbread Man is a biscuit or a cookie made of gingerbread, usually in the shape of a stylized human, although other shapes with respect to seasonal themes like Christmas, Halloween, Easter etc. are quite common. Gingerbread dates from the 15th Century. The first documented instance of figure-shaped gingerbread biscuits was at the court of Elizabeth of England. She had the gingerbread figures made and presented in the likeness of some of her important guests. (Source wiki)

And according to Guinness World of Records, the largest gingerbread man weighed 651 Kg and was made by IKEA Furuset (Norway) in Oslo, on 9 November 2009.  The giant Gingerbread man was baked in one piece, Is that not amazing? I think the popularity of gingerbread during the holidays and especially the Christmas season can be attributed to the use of spices such as Ginger and Cinnamon which helps you keep warm in the winters.

The aroma that comes when these are baked is just wonderful and on top of that the lovely shape. You just don’t feel like eating it, they are so cute little munchies. My son is a big fan of Gingerbread and he had requested this for the last 2-3 years but I was not able to bake it. We bought once the store version but he did not eat it, probably because they were very sweet. He was just back from school and he could smell them. I had just removed one batch and he was super excited to eat. Had to hold him for 10 mins to at-least cooldown.

Then came the next demand, are you not going to decorate this Gingerbread Men :-). I really thought of skipping it this time, but then did it for him, and though he loved them, he gave me more ideas like you can decorate this Gingerbread Men with a Christmas hat, a Santa, and you can use more colours and m&m’s etc etc. I said yes I know, and you have more ideas, so let’s do it in your vacation and you will be decorating it. haha.. Phew, kid’s demands ….

And then the fun began, both my kids enjoyed Gingerbread Men thoroughly and by taking turns in eating hands, legs or head of the delicious cookies. Wow, I too joined with them and revisited some memories of my childhood. TBh till date many times I enjoy some foods this way 😂😂.
