Spooky Halloween Stuffed Bread is a fun way to get some creepy Halloween fun with food and get your kids involved. This spooky breads are stuffed with vegetarian pizza stuffing and are shaped into snakes and witches hats.
They are cute and at the same time a bit scary with that pizza stuffing oozing out. I did click the pics with the oozed-out stuffing as I felt it looked more real and creepy :-). While eating the kids were like we are eating snakes body and blood :D.
We thoroughly enjoyed making this bread. My daughter loved to make small snakes that spiraled around the sticks. I loved to shape the snakes, was a bit difficult to get the faces right, but in the end, we managed. All in all, it was fun making and eating them.
Shapes one can make for spooky Halloween bread.
I would say go wild and just play around. At first, I just had planned to make snake shape stromboli, but then we were enjoying it. I then added a witch’s hat and small spiders on the go. One can even make ghosts, giant spiders, ghost mummies, etc. If you do not like animal shapes, go easy and make small pumpkins or use a cutter to shape them into pumpkins.
Fillings one can use in this Spooky Halloween Stuffed Bread
I had made the vegetarian stuffing with onion, pepper, and corn. One can add any veggies of choice. Add fruits like pineapple or even small pieces of tofu or paneer. For meat eaters, you can stuff it with chicken, pepperoni, or ham.
How to make the dough for the Halloween bread
I have made vegan dough for the bread. Have used flour, olive oil, salt, water, and yeast and made basic pizza dough. One can use any type of bread dough for this bread. If you are okay to eat eggs and butter, you can make the dough using this recipe Cebularz Lubelski (Polish Onion Flatbread) or this Savoury Babka dough without eggs.
How to shape Spooky Halloween snake bread
Shaping the snake bread was not that hard. All you have to do is roll the dough into a circular disc. Then add the desired filling and roll and seal. The rolling needs to be tight and the sealing needs to be done alongside the edges so that you do not have the stuffing oozing out.
As you all can see I have used a generous amount of stuffing and hence it did ooze out a bit. I am okay with that, however, if you do want it clean, add less stuffing.
Do some diagonal cuts in the body. This helps in the bread not exploding much, and also gives a natural look to the bread.
Eyes and mouth of Spooky Halloween snake bread
For the eyes, I have used raisins, one can use olives too. At times the raisins come out while baking, simply stick it back or glue it with some chocolate. For the tongue, I did use some red peppers.
How to shape Witches Hat bread
This was the easiest. All you do is cut the dough into triangles. Add the stuffing in one triangle. Place another triangle on the top and seal on the edges. It is best to make a small cut in the hats, or else they might explode while baking.
To shape the hats, I have used peppers again cut lengthwise. One can use cheese slices cut lengthwise. For eyes and mouth, I simply used some melted chocolate.
How to shape mini snake breadsticks
To make mini snake breadsticks, I first roll the dough into a circular disc. Then cut long strips of the dough. Oil the sticks and then roll the dough over the sticks leaving a little space in between to allow the dough to rise. For eyes and mouth, I have used chocolate and peppers.
Making Instant Pizza Sauce
I have made an Instant version of my pizza sauce. I simply added some oil, tomato puree, herbs, garlic granules, and salt. Let this cook until the sauce thickens and you have one delicious Instant Pizza sauce ready.
Veggies for the stuffed bread
I like to saute my veggies for the pizza stuffed bread. One can use it raw if required. For sauteeing, I added some oil and cooked the onion and garlic in it until lightly translucent. Then I simply added some peppers and boiled corn. Let it cook for a further 2-3 minutes until they are done. The veggies should not be overcooked, they need to have a bite in them and should not be mushy.
