Tofu Avocado and Chives Spread

Protein and fiber-rich this creamy and rich, Vegan Tofu Avocado and Chives Spread is perfect as a spread for your breads or crackers or a dip for veggies and fruits. What about a nice party board along with this dip, veggies, fruits, and crackers?

We have loads of cream cheese and I wanted to come up with something healthy with healthy fats. Hence I decided to make this Easy Tofu and Avocado Herb dip which uses very few ingredients and can be made in 10 minutes.

This Tofu and Avocado herb spread also goes well as a chutney to your dosa or idli, or simply spread it on bread and top it with some veggies to make a delicious sandwich.

The spread takes just 8 ingredients including salt and 5 minutes of your time. All you do is process it in the food processor until done. The consistency of the dip/spread varies depending on the type of tofu used.

Ingredients used

Tofu

Tofu is the main ingredient in this recipe. I have used regular firm tofu. One can use silken tofu. With silken tofu, the spread would be more on the liquid side or soft and would be like a dip than a spread.

Avocado

Avocado adds a nice creamy texture to the spread.

Chives

They are used as the herbs in the spread. One can replace it with mint or basil. Chives add a nice color, taste, and texture to the dish.

Other Ingredients used

Nutritional yeast for that umami flavor and cheesy texture as well as to increase the nutritional content of the dip.

Green chili and Garlic are used for taste.

Apple Cider Vinegar gives it that sour taste as well as added nutrition. One can replace it with lime/lemon juice or any other type of vinegar.

Variations

  • Instead of Chives, one can use any other herbs like mint or basil.
  • The paprika powder can be added to give it a bit of kick.
  • Paneer can be used instead of Tofu (It would not be vegan in that case)

Can this be stored?

Yes, the dip or the herb stores very well in the refrigerator for up to a week. Any longer than that I would advise to keep this in the freezer and use as required.

  • Spread on bread, burgers, and crackers.
  • As a side to your meals
  • As a dip for veggies and fruits
  • As a chutney to your Idli, dosa, or snacks.
  • As a filling in peppers, potatoes, or any kind of veggies

Vegan Tofu, Avocado, and Chives Spread

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Tofu grated
  • ½ cup chives roughly chopped
  • 3 large garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 5 Green Chilli Optional
  • 1 avocado pitted and flesh removed
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  • In a blender add all the ingredients and blend to the consistency desired.
    1 Cup Tofu, 3 large garlic cloves, 3 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 5 Green Chilli, 1 avocado, Salt, ½ cup chives
  • Serve or store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days or more.

Notes

  • Standard US US-size cups and spoons used. 1 teaspoon = 5ml, 1 cup = 235ml
  • Measurements are a rough guideline. One can change as per preference.
  • Read above for variations or replacements.
