I am a die hard chocolate fan. Love the dark Chocolates, the milk, but not the white. Anything with chocolate I am sure to try it. Except for a few fusions, which have come up now. Pair chocolate with a few ingredients and it is a match made in heaven. Chocolate and mint is one such combination and hence I decided to make this delicious 5 Ingredient Mint Chocolate Truffles.

What is Chocolate Truffle?
A chocolate truffle is a type of chocolate confectionery. It is traditionally made with a chocolate ganache centre coated in chocolate, cocoa powder or chopped toasted nuts (like pistachio’s, hazelnuts, almonds, or coconut). They are usually in a spherical, conical, or curved shape. And did you know that their name derives from their resemblance to truffles, edible fungi of the genus Tuber. (Source Wiki)
Chocolate and its Pairs
Chocolate pairs well with a wide variety of flavours. Vanilla is the most common flavor many candy manufactures add. Then you have orange and lemon the most traditional citrusy flavours and not to forget coffee. Then we have cranberries, pomegranates, mint, and even chilli pairs nicely with chocolate. Nuts always work well with chocolates. Almond, hazelnut, raisins are the common ones. One can even add different fruit extracts to chocolate and I use to love adding fruits to chocolate to get that dark and sweet taste in one. yum, I am drooling here.
Chocolate good or bad?
I am not going into the details of is chocolate good or bad for you. Moderation is the key to everything and dark chocolate the one’s with higher cocoa content has some benefits aligned to it. I am not detailing it out here, as you are the better judge.
The challenge
I had actually made these 5 Ingredient Mint Chocolate truffles long back for some other challenge but was unable to post it. So when Kalyani from Seduce your Tastebuds announced the theme for this Monday’s Foodie Monday Bloghop as #GetInShape I decided to make these Mint Chocolate Truffles. Wondering what the theme is? Her theme was different, she said to make any food but the food has to be represented in geometrical shape.
Why Truffles
At first I thought of making something different and a few ideas did cross my mind. But then I remembered this Mint chocolate truffle in my draft folder. I decided to represent a sphere and finally publish this recipe. So why I choose this one and not any complicated shape? Because these is the first few shapes my kid’s started recognising when they saw me making food. For eg. Making of the dough ball for the roti’s or bread. Both always said I too want to make a ball and while they use to play with the dough I use to finish making my food.
So when I was making this truffle, both my kid’s joined in. My daughter like my son at the same age was happily messing around with the chocolate and murmuring I am making a ball. Three of us completely enjoyed the rush and the mess which we did with the chocolate on that day. Just tried to take a bit cleaner pic with her tiny hands. Pic below…. So is it not a perfect fit for the theme?
I had a few recipes in my hand, but I still did gave a try to the famous recipe of Gordan Ramsay’s.
So here goes the recipe:
Ingredients
- 500 ml double cream (Original mentioned half double, and half single)
- A small bunch of mint
- 500 gm Dark Chocolate (I used 70% Dark chocolate)
- 130 gm Butter, diced
- 130 gm Honey
For the Coating (Any of the below)
- Cocoa Powder
- Desiccated coconut
- Chopped Pistachio
Preparation
- In a clean pot add in the cream.
- Smash the mint springs with a wooden spoon or slightly in a mortar and pestle just to release the fragrance.
- On slow heat the cream along with mint for 5-6 minutes until you see the mixture starts boiling.
- In the meantime, break or cut the chocolate into small pieces.
- Add this in another heat proof bowl.
- Add in the butter and honey.
- Strain the hot cream and mint mixture into this discarding the mint sprigs.
- Cover it lightly and leave it for 5-10 minutes until the mixture gets a bit cold.
- Now slowly mix the mixture till all the butter is melted and you get a smooth glossy mixture.
- Cover and chill this until form for 1 hour or more.
- After an hour, in separate bowls, add the toppings of your choice.
- Take a tablespoon of the chocolate mixture and form a sphere shape.
- Immediately roll that in cocoa powder, or pistachio or mix or the topping of your choice.
- You need to be quick in the rolling, as the chocolate will start to melt.
- If you are storing the truffles, place them in an air tight container and refrigerate for 3-4 days.
Notes
- You really need to be quick with respect to rolling of the truffles, as a good quality chocolate will start melting.
- The butter should not be melted.

Thank You. At the max 1 day, but if the weather is hot it will not work for a day too as it has fresh cream which will go bad and a good quality chocolate will melt too.
