I simply love berries and I always have 1-2 different types of this healthy treats in my shopping trolley. They are low in calories and hence a perfect mid morning snack. Top it with yogurt, as in this 5 min Healthy Greek Yogurt Breakfast Bowls recipe and you have a healthy protein rich breakfast. They also go well in different types of bakes or simple smoothies. I do make a lot of smoothies and this time I decided to make this Blueberry Banana smoothie.

Smoothie
A smoothie is a thick and creamy beverage made using fresh raw fruits and vegetables. Many a times dairy products like yogurt, milk are added to increase the thickness of the smoothie as well as to give it some body. To make it non-dairy or to just enjoy the fruits and vegetables one can add water, coconut water, fresh juice’s etc. Honey, sugar etc might be added for sweetness and nuts and seeds to increase its nutrient content.
One can just play around and make a smoothie of their choice. Simply add in whatever ingredients you have at home and you would be surprised at how the taste and texture differs based on the ingredient. I love to add different leafy vegetables too like celery, lettuce etc. May be next time I will share a post on this.

Why Blueberry Banana Smoothie?
So why I am sharing this Blueberry Banana Smoothie. Well its Monday and it’s time for Foodie Monday bloghop. This time the #211 theme was suggested by Mayuri from Mayuri Jikoni Naturally Colourful. Mayuri Ji has a wonderful collection of recipes from all over the world and she specialises in Gujarati , Kenyan and I would say Thai cuisine too. I love to hop on her blog to check for some wonderful ideas.
So Mayuri Ji, wanted us to prepare a dish where the colour stands out from one ingredient. I had 2 choices in my mind. I have made a healthy bake for my son’s lunchbox, but unfortunately the pics did not turn out good and that recipe needs a bit of modification. So until I make a foolproof recipe, it has to wait.

Hence I opted out for my next choice which was using berries as a naturally colouring ingredient. It is supposed to be summer here, I and hence the markets are flooded with berries. Hence, I had multiple choices like, Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries etc. I decided to use Blueberries as had them in the fridge. Later on did I realised I could have used my fresh garden Strawberries too, but blueberries in the fridge had to be finished first.
My colour must not be 100% percent blue as it appears in images on net. But this is what I got naturally and I loved it. I have not done any editing of this pic as I wanted the natural colour to stand out. Hope I have done justice to the theme.
What went in my Blueberry Banana Smoothie
I like to make my smoothie dairy free as it is best to consume the ingredients in its raw or natural form. Banana here is added for sweetness as well as to give it the creamy texture. Green apples for water , sunflower and pumpkin seeds to increase the nutrient content of the smoothie. All in all I had this Blueberry Banana Smoothie which was bursting with flavours and packed with nutrients.
