Oats Energy Bites (No-cook, No-Bake, Processed Sugar-Free)

Sharing is caring!

Oats Energy Bites are a no-cook and a no-bake 5 min easy and healthy recipe. These energy bites are Vegan, Gluten-Free and processed sugar-free.

It needs just a few ingredients and can be assembled in a jiffy. They are perfect treats for those who cannot enjoy sugar, best for your pre or post-workout snack. These are also good as edible gifts and stay fresh for at least a month. (If it stays that long)

The sweetness in these energy bites comes from Dates. There is no added sugar in the form of honey or jaggery or processed white or brown sugar.

PS – Dates have natural sugar in it but still have sugar and needs to be consumed in moderation.

These energy bites are not overly sweet, but sweet enough to satisfy your sweet cravings. One can add a tablespoon of processed sugar if required, but to be honest you do not need it.

And if you are looking for processed sugar-free sweets try this Khajoor (Dates) Dry Fruit Barfi (Roll) or this Egg-Less, Sugar-Less, Butter-Less Dates & Walnut Cake or these healthy Ragi or Finger millet ladoos.

Ingredients Used in Oats Energy Bites

The first main ingredient used is Oats. Oats are naturally gluten-free but if you are allergic to gluten, do buy it from a certified one who sells gluten-free oats.

The second main ingredient is Dates. It is used to bind everything together and provide natural sweetness to the recipe.

Type of Dates to use

Any type of Dates can be used here. But I would recommend using a soft variety of dates. A soft variety of dates will easily form into a paste and mix well in a cake. It will also impart more sweetness than the dried ones. I have used the Sukkary Dates Variety.

Nuts – I have used a mix set of nuts like almonds, walnuts and pecans. One can use any choice of nuts. Other options one can add are cashew, pistachio, hazelnut etc.

Lemon zest is added to give a nice lemony zing to the energy bites. It is completely optional.

Coconut oil or Vegetable oil is optional and is used only if required. At times it is difficult to bind everything together, so 1 tablespoon of oil is added for binding.

Variations in this Oats Energy Bites

  • One can add some cocoa powder to give it some chocolate flavour.
  • Chocolate chips can be added along with nuts to appease the kids.

Shelf life of the ladoos.

These ladoos stay good for a month or more. If you are staying in a warm climate, it is best to refrigerate and consume within a month.

Recipe process of Oats Energy Bites

The recipe is very easy and simple. All you do is dump everything in a food processor and process it finely. One needs to process it until the whole mass starts coming up together.

The next step is to make balls (ladoos/truffles). If you press the mixture between your hands you should be able to form balls. If not one can add a tablespoon of oil at a time and mix and again try to form balls.

One can even make square or rectangle bars out of this. In that case, you would need to layer the mixture in a tray and refrigerate it for some time. However do note as it does not have any kind of strong binding agent, the slices might not come out clean.

Recipes with Oats

Do you like oats in sweet or in savoury form? I prefer them in savoury forms and love to make Oats Chivda (Spicy oats Trail mix) which is a nice spicy mix for my tea time or this Breakfast Oats and Dalia Idli or this, Oats Vegetable Chila(Pancake), Oats Upma which can be doubled for lunch too.

And if you want some healthy lunch box ideas for kids, try these Spelt and Oats muffins or these Vegan Baked Oats Bites which are loaded with vegetables. And if you like it in sweet form but do not like the regular oatmeal try this Eggless Buckwheat and Oats Cookies, Sugarless Cacao Oats Breakfast Smoothie, Eggless Oats and Dates Cookies, Vegan Beet Root and Oats Cookies, Irish Oat Flapjacks or this Beetroot and Dates Energy bites.
